The England midfielder Has to Cut Out the Petulance to Reclaim a Star Position Under Tuchel.

For Bellingham to aims to earn his place once again into England’s best starting eleven, the smart move to eliminate the nonsense. His reaction when he saw that he was being shown after an evening of uneven play in the match against Albania was unacceptable.

"I don’t want to overstate it but I stand by my words 'conduct is crucial' and consideration for the squad members who substitute on," Tuchel said. "Substitutions happen and you must accept them as a player."

The midfielder must understand. There was no call for an outburst. Harry Kane had just put the Three Lions two goals ahead in a dead rubber qualifier, with only six minutes remaining and he, following an inconsistent display, had just been booked for a foul on Armando Broja. It was not a questionable change. In fact it might have been reckless for Tuchel to keep Bellingham on the pitch considering it was possible Bellingham would make himself ineligible of the initial fixture of the World Cup by receiving a second yellow card.

Turning the Spotlight on Himself

Yet Bellingham turned the spotlight on himself. There was no disguising the player's annoyance upon understanding that his replacement was ready for another player. He flung his arms in the air and although he exchanged a handshake on his way to the bench it was obvious that the manager was displeased.

This represents the hurdle that Bellingham must overcome. He praised Marcus Rashford for providing the assist for the captain to head in his second goal, but everything else was counterproductive. It's not like arguing was going to alter the decision. The coach has repeatedly emphasized respecting team hierarchies and the necessity of behaving correctly.

Facing Examination

He, omitted from the previous squad, has faced close inspection upon his return to the squad in the current camp. In effect his place has been in question and his actions haven't benefited him through his behavior to his substitution as the national team completed a perfect qualifying campaign by seeing off a feisty challenge from the Albanian team.

The System and the Setup

As a result the jury is out on whether England function at their best including Bellingham. What we saw was not definitive. Tuchel tried new things from the manager at the start. He has given the team organization and direction in recent months, employing a holding player, a box-to-box player, a No 10 and out-and-out wingers, but it felt different versus Albania. Quansah was given his first cap, the midfielder was in the starting lineup for England and the use of John Stones as a makeshift midfielder created a faint echo to City's 2023 treble winners.

Mixed Performance

Bellingham was a mixed bag. He created an opportunity for his teammate during the second half but often looked overly eager to shine. He made many hurried and errant passes. An unnecessary confrontation with an Albania midfielder in the early stages. England were ragged for much of the second half. One Albania chance followed Bellingham squandered possession. His caution occurred when he was dispossessed to Broja and fouled the attacker.

Squad Strength Shows

Ultimately the squad's strength made the difference. Tuchel threw on Phil Foden, who looked more comfortable to the position that Bellingham had played during the first half, and Bukayo Saka. Later Saka whipped in a corner for Harry Kane to open the scoring. It was a reminder that set pieces are going to be vital at the World Cup.

Relationship Not Broken

Nevertheless, all talk was about Bellingham. The excellence of the winger's delivery for Kane's goal was a little lost due to the fuss of the player change. At the end, the focus was on the midfielder. Tuchel walked up from behind and pushed the player in the direction of the travelling England fans. The bond between them remains intact. The coach isn't ready to give up on Bellingham yet. Yet whether Tuchel is inclined to grant him a starring role is not guaranteed.
